SNAP is administered by the Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS), which provides food assistance to low-income households. SNAP accounts are linked to EBT cards, which are charged monthly with the amount of your benefits during your certification period.

SNAP EBT cards are accepted at all grocery stores or SNAP-approved retailers. Most foods are eligible for the SNAP program, except hot foods when sold or foods sold for consumption in-store. You can also use your EBT to shop and pay for your groceries online.

Bonus offer: Open a new Citi Priority Account by 09/01/23 and earn up to $2,000 in bonus cash after completing the required activities.

Check the United States Department of Agriculture’s SNAP retailer locator to find a retailer that accepts SNAP in your area. You can also check Tennessee retailers accepting SNAP online here.

Residents of Tennessee may be eligible for the SNAP program if they meet certain eligibility criteria. Residents must pass an income and resources test, as well as additional requirements. Most able-bodied residents between the ages of 16 and 59 must register to work, participate in the employment and training program if offered, accept job offers, and cannot leave a job. The amount of benefits you receive depends on your household resources and situation.

College students may also receive SNAP benefits, provided they work an average of 20 hours per week, are enrolled in the work-study program, are caring for young dependents, or are receiving Families First, the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) from the state.

Replacement SNAP benefits are also available to existing beneficiaries through the Emergency Disaster Assistance program. D-SNAP is available for SNAP families who have suffered losses due to extreme weather conditions that may have caused a power outage of 12 hours or more or loss of food. If your household qualifies for Disaster Assistance, you can pre-register on the D-SNAP application page.
