Introducing the NVIDIA RTX 4090 Founders Edition PCB

No more renders, the PCB was shown during RTX 40 Editors Day.

The RTX 4090 PCB has better handling of power transients, claims NVIDIA. The compact PCB for NVIDIA’s massive three-slot RTX 4090 design has as many power stages as the RTX 3090 Ti. It’s also the first time the company has shown the AD102 GPU in a real photo.

The PCB is almost identical to the Founders Edition RTX 3090 Ti. There are some minor changes, such as relocated capacitors or the lack of NVLink on the RTX 40 model, but even the layout of GDDR6X memory and VRMs haven’t changed.

According to NVIDIA, the RTX 4090 has 20+3 phase re-architectures (GPU/memory) with better transient voltage handling. This should limit power excursions compared to previous generations. Additionally, it should also reduce the risk of power cuts due to power spikes. No ATX 3.0 power supply is required, confirms NVIDIA.

The PCB is designed for the PCIe Gen 12+4 pin connector (12VHPWR), consuming up to 600W when the GPU is overclocked. So far, all card partners have announced a default TDP of 450W, but some are hinting at a higher TDP with dual BIOS settings. We’ve already reported that the maximum configurable TGP is over 600W, but it’s unclear how many cards will see such a limit. Either way, NVIDIA claims that 3×8-pin or 4×8-pin to 16-pin power adapters will work just fine with any power supply.

NVIDIA is also leaking details on the AD102 GPU, the flagship processor set back for RTX 4090. This GPU should feature 76.3B transistors and up to 18432 CUDA cores (FP32 units) in full configuration (so not for 4090). They are grouped into 12 GPCs (Graphics Processing Clusters) and 144 SMs (Streaming Multiprocessors). NVIDIA confirms that the full AD102 GPU has 576 Tensor cores and 144 RT cores. Additionally, the RTX 4090 will have 192 ROPs.

NVIDIA also makes statements regarding the design of Founders Edition. What was immediately noticed during the first leaks are bigger fans. This change alone will improve airflow by 20%. What hasn’t been pictured yet is the new heatsink under the updated frame, redesigned vapor chamber, and new baseplate.

NVIDIA is now ready to launch its RTX 4090 GPU on October 12. So far, only one media site has publicly acknowledged receiving the Founder’s Edition from NVIDIA.

]]> Predatory payday loan companies and fraudsters thrive amid unequal laws and stolen data Wed, 21 Sep 2022 18:16:00 +0000

As consumers lost their jobs and struggled to make ends meet during the COVID-19 pandemic, many have turned to payday loans and other short-term solutions, with an increase in solutions in line. This has not only allowed predatory lenders to thrive – many borrowers still face exorbitant interest rates and opaque fees – but has also created a fertile environment for scam artists, according to a new in-depth study from the Better Business Bureau. .

From 2019 to July 2022, BBB received nearly 3,000 customer complaints about payday loan companies, with a disputed dollar amount of nearly $3 million. In addition, over 117,000 complaints have been filed against debt collection companies at BBB.

Complainants often said they felt ill-informed about the terms of their loans. Many fall into what consumer advocates call a “debt trap” of racking up interest and fees that can force customers to pay double the amount originally borrowed. A St. Louis, Missouri woman recently told BBB that over the course of her $300 loan, she paid over $1,200 and still owed an additional $1,500.

The scammers haven’t missed an opportunity to take advantage of consumers either. Posing as payday loan companies and debt collectors, scammers use stolen information to trick consumers into handing over banking information and cash. In one case, BBB discovered that hackers had stolen and released detailed personal and financial data for more than 200,000 consumers.

The BBB study advises consumers to thoroughly research all of their borrowing options — as well as the terms of a payday loan — before signing anything for a short-term loan.

Russell reveals if Mercedes will change the design of the 2023 car – Mon, 19 Sep 2022 18:30:50 +0000

Mercedes driver George Russell has indicated the design path the team could take for 2023. He also says the team is starting to understand the troublesome W13.

George Russell celebrates his OP3 finish at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix (Image credit: Mercedes AMG F1 Media: LAT Images)

The British driver could not have predicted when he signed for Mercedes last season that his 2022 season would see Mercedes so far off the pace of Red Bull and Ferrari. Although the W13 was the third fastest car on the grid, the British driver took pole position and scored seven podiums, including a second place at Zandvoort.

The W13 features one of the most unique and radical designs seen in F1 for many years. Her ultra-thin pontoons were blamed for excessive early-season porpoising. Both pilots are suffering badly in Baku. While performance has improved in racing, the W13 is yet to claim a win in 2022.

Speaking to, Russell said the team is open to both changing its current design or completely altering its philosophy. Confirming that “nothing is on the table”, he reiterated the belief that sidepod design was not the sole cause of the W13’s pacing issues, hinting that another “differentiator” is to blame:

“I don’t think anything is on the table. Of course, we have a pretty unique design with the sidepods. It’s no coincidence that we’ll continue with this design, but it’s also no coincidence that we will completely change our philosophy.

“But at the end of the day, whether we have the wide pontoons or the narrow pontoons that don’t make a difference in terms of performance, there’s more to it.”

Understanding the W13

Russell said the team now has a good understanding of why the W13 excels on high downforce circuits. Citing Zandvoort and Budapest as examples, the W13 was on pace with Red Bull and Ferrari in those races, with Russell finishing second and third respectively. The team also now understands why low downforce and high speed circuits continue to see the car struggle to compete with title contenders. Russell admitted, “That doesn’t mean we can solve problems overnight.”

At the Italian Grand Prix, Russell said Ferrari’s pace “took us by surprise”. W13 couldn’t keep Verstappen’s Red Bull behind. Once past, the Dutchman then dominated on his way to victory. Russell couldn’t challenge Verstappen, nor Charles Leclerc, second. Despite this, Russell still finished P3, a solid result considering W13’s struggles:

“I think we understand exactly why at circuits like Zandvoort and Budapest why we were competitive, and we understand why at circuits like this. [Monza] and Spa we were not competitive. This does not mean that we can solve problems overnight.

“But we have to keep developing this car and next year will be sort of an evolution of that and I think now we have a totally clear direction on how to develop the car.”

“[Monza] It was by far not our best race of the season, the car didn’t feel good, we lost a lot of performance since FP1 on Friday and we don’t really know why, but I think the most important thing was Ferrari’s pace surprised us.

“We expected Max and the Red Bulls to be competitive and exactly how they were this weekend and how they were at Spa, but Ferrari took us by surprise which is why we couldn’t really fight for this P2.”

‘Nothing is on the table’ for 2023 Mercedes design, says Russell Sat, 17 Sep 2022 14:41:33 +0000

Mercedes’ W13 turned heads at the start of this season with its slim, striking sidepods and radical design, but according to George Russell the team is exploring plenty of options for its 2023 car.

Russell, who continued his top-five streak with a podium finish at the Italian Grand Prix last weekend, has scored 203 points this season – just 23 less than Valtteri Bottas scored in his final season for Mercedes – but neither he nor his teammate Lewis Hamilton have won a race in 2022.

TREMAYNE: Why past and present clashed at last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix

Asked if Mercedes are going to change their radical design for 2023, Russell said: “I don’t think anything is on the table. Of course we have a pretty unique design with the sidepods. It’s not Outside the maps we’re going to continue with this design, but it’s not outside the cars either that we’re going to completely change our philosophy.

“But at the end of the day, whether we have the wide pontoons or the narrow pontoons that don’t make a difference in terms of performance, there’s more to it.”

Slim sidepods are a defining feature of the W13 – although Russell said the sidepods weren’t the performance differentiator

Mercedes did not expect to perform well at low downforce, high speed circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps and Monza, and although Russell said the team knew the underlying reasons, he explained that he there was no “overnight” solution.

Russell scored a podium at Monza

Russell added: “[Monza] It was by far not our best race of the season, the car didn’t feel good, we lost a lot of performance since FP1 on Friday and we don’t really know why, but I think the most important thing was Ferrari’s pace surprised us.

POWER RANKINGS: One driver passes others as scores arrive from Monza

“We expected Max and the Red Bulls to be competitive and exactly how they were this weekend and how they were at Spa, but Ferrari took us by surprise which is why we couldn’t really fight for this P2.”

The defending constructors’ champions are just 35 points behind Ferrari in the constructors’ standings, with both teams hoping to do better on the streets of Marina Bay as the Singapore Grand Prix returns on September 30.

Students use food stamps to fight food insecurity on campus | New Fri, 16 Sep 2022 23:15:00 +0000

Food insecurity has been the topic on Eckerd’s student languages.

Last semester, associate professor of anthropology Jessie Fly taught the Anthropological Research Methods course, where student researchers researched information about food insecurity on the Eckerd campus by conducting interviews and surveys. Florida PIRG (Public Interest Research Group) helped the class organize free registration methods and surveys to get the information.

Together, they found that many students struggled with food due to time constraints, nutritional content, and dietary restrictions. COVID-19 issues have also contributed to food insecurity, as people said they were not comfortable eating in person in the cafeteria.

Fly thinks food insecurity is often a silent issue, as it is commonly assumed that students are wealthy enough to pay tuition and therefore have access to adequate food.

“I think many students recognize that they are in a privileged position compared to people who don’t have access to an education,” Fly said. “So in this privileged position, can I admit or say to someone ‘look, I don’t have access to the food that I need to be healthy or food secure.’ Will anyone take me seriously?

Fly also notes that food insecurity is a societal issue and that the community around the Eckerd campus struggles with food insecurity.

“It’s important to think about the wider community and what it looks like to proclaim the issue to the outside,” Fly said. “We must continue to encourage people to include the outside world. To be inclusive is to be productive.

In Florida, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are equivalent to a food stamp, but through Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT).

Christyna Reagan, President of ECOS and a triple major in Political Science, Women’s and Gender Studies, and American Studies, applied for SNAP benefits in late July 2022. She first considered applying during her research trip to been to several southern states, where she met many low-income students — including one in Alabama sharing her food stamp experience. .

At first, Reagan did not consider applying at all, as she assumed that Meal Plan students could not qualify. Now Reagan lives in the Omega community, where she’s not on the meal plan at all.

“They were always vague in wording,” Reagan said. “But I looked at the fine print of qualified students and decided to apply to see where it got me.”

It took the Florida Department of Children and Families, through the Office of Economic Self-Sufficiency (ESS) online portal, 31 days to reach out with a phone interview after Reagan submitted an application. They called early one morning, which came across as spam, so Reagan must have called the same number 15 times before trying to call customer service. After being on hold for two hours, her phone died and she had to wait until next Monday when she finally made it through and repeated the information she had entered in her original application, such as medication and the Federal Labor Study. She was told she was qualified and had to wait for EBT to arrive.

“I check every start and end of every day,” Reagan said. “The process was horrible and very slow. It took me over a month. »

Last semester, Reagan had food safety issues because cafeteria hours weren’t long enough with his off-campus night shift schedule. This meant there was nowhere to find food on campus at midnight. Now at Omega, she has to pay for her own groceries, which has led her to put them on a credit card and withdraw money from her student loans in order to feed herself.

“To me, food insecurity is like not knowing where the food is going to come from,” Reagan said. “Knowing how to bring tupperware to what events and waiting until late and hoping there’s food to take with you.”

In an effort to end food insecurity on campus, Reagan, as president of ECOS, will work with Religious Life’s Zero Hunger Campaign and the FLPIRG to open a food bank on campus. Although details are still being discussed, they hope to open it soon.

For now, applications for SNAP benefits are available through the Florida Department of Children and Families online application portal.

Reagan said she would be happy to help any student who wants to apply.

Alleged AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT PCB Design Surfaces Online Fri, 16 Sep 2022 08:01:04 +0000

Igor Wallossek from Igorslab has shared what appears to be a board design of an as yet unreleased RDNA 3 based graphics card, most likely that of a Radeon RX 7900 XT.

The diagram could represent AMD’s next flagship, the Radeon RX 7900 XT. Although we don’t know if this PCB layout is from a reference or a custom model, we see AMD’s Navi 31 GPU with seven chiplets, one GCD and six MCDs, plus 12 VRAM chips. Each space can be filled with 1GB or 2GB of GDDR6 giving us a total of 12GB or most likely 24GB of memory since this is a top tier product. As far as we know, AMD still uses GDDR6, unlike Nvidia’s GDDR6X.

The board is powered by three eight-pin power connectors, which means a maximum power consumption of 525W (150W wired plus 75W via PCIe). This does not rule out the possibility of AMD moving to 16-pin (12VHPWR) connectors. Power is then covered at lower voltages (required for GPU, VRAM, etc.) using 21 phases, 16 of which operate in tandem for a total of eight phases for GPU, two for memory, two for power. other components like controller memory and one for the I/O bus.

Note that the following sketch is based on real circuit boards and plans according to the leak, but the source cannot be verified.

Radeon RX 7900XT - PCB
Source: igorslab

In terms of connectivity, we have three DisplayPorts and one HDMI, most likely DisplayPort 2.0 and HDMI 2.1. Anything less would be a step backwards from current graphics products.

According to the latest reports, the Radeon RX 7900 XT is expected to feature a full Navi 31 GPU with 12,288 stream processors fabricated using TSMC’s 5nm. As said before, this GPU is made up of a GCD (Graphics Complex Die) and six MCDs (Memory Complex/Controller Die). Each MCD contains some amount of Infinity Cache – presumably 64MB or 96MB per chip. Not to mention the 24 GB of GDDR6 at 18 Gbit/s on a 384-bit wide bus.

While AMD still manages to keep its upcoming Radeon 7000 specs under wraps, we should start to see more leaks after the release of Zen 4 processors. Sit down and get comfortable, things are about to get interesting.

Custom NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card with massive quad-slot design spotted in Lenovo Legion gaming PC Wed, 14 Sep 2022 09:17:14 +0000

An insanely huge NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 custom graphics card has been spotted in the Lenovo Legion gaming PC by the NGA forums.

Huge 4-slot NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 custom graphics card spotted in Lenovo’s Legion gaming PC

There are no details regarding the specific brand or model of this custom NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card, but it could be a Gigabyte design based on its appearance. The card features a quad slot that Gigabyte created for RTX 3090 Ti cards and a single PCIe Gen 5.0 socket can also be spotted. However, the card could very well be a custom design from Lenovo itself, as the OEM has its fair share of custom (non-reference) graphics cards they’ve designed in the past.

The card can be seen in the Lenovo Legion gaming PC and the card has a three-fan cooler that pushes air through the heatsink. The heatsink and backplate extend beyond its PCB which uses a compact design so that the third fan mainly pushes air out of the cutout on the backplate. This design is similar to Gigabyte’s GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming OC which was leaked yesterday.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 “expected” specs

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 will use 128 SM out of the 144 SM for a total of 16,384 CUDA cores. The GPU will come with 96MB of L2 cache and a total of 384 ROPs, which is just insane, but given that the RTX 4090 is a scaled-down design, it may feature slightly lower L2 and ROP numbers. Clock speeds are not yet confirmed, but given that the TSMC 4N process is used, we expect clocks between 2.0 and 3.0 GHz.

As far as memory specs go, the GeForce RTX 4090 is expected to rock 24GB GDDR6X capacities which will be clocked at 21Gbps speeds on a 384-bit bus interface. This will provide up to 1 TB/s of bandwidth.
